Benzyl bromide (C6H5CH2Brcap C sub 6 cap H sub 5 cap C cap H sub 2 cap B r𝐶6𝐻5𝐶𝐻2𝐵𝑟) is a colorless to pale yellow, lachrymatory (tear-inducing) liquid with a pungent, aromatic odor. It is a highly reactive organic compound used extensively as a benzylating agent to protect alcohols and carboxylic acids in synthesis, as well as in the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and quaternary ammonium compounds. 

Methanesulfonyl chloride (CH3SO2Clcap C cap H sub 3 cap S cap O sub 2 cap C l𝐶𝐻3𝑆𝑂2𝐶𝑙, CAS 124-63-0) is a colorless to pale yellow, pungent, moisture-sensitive liquid used as a key reagent in organic synthesis to introduce the methylsulfonyl (mesyl) group.
